POSITION SUMMARY 
This position will provide one-on-one interventions in the community with youth receiving mental health services while reporting to a Qualified Mental Health Professional. The staff member will engage youth in activities to increase positive socialization and coping skills. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides one-on-one direct intervention with children/youth.
• Serves as a positive role model for the child/youth.
• Provides time-structuring activities.
• Provides immediate behavioral reinforcements.
• Collaborates with and supports the family caregivers’ efforts to provide a positive environment for the child/youth.
• Assists the child/youth to engage in, or remain engaged in, appropriate activities.
• Helps to minimize the child/youth’s impulsive behavior.
• Helps to increase the child/youth’s social and community competencies by building or reinforcing those daily living skills that will assist the child/youth in living successfully at home and in the community.
• Assists in developing the child/youth’s ability to sustain self-directed appropriate behavior, internalize a sense of social responsibility, and/or enable participation proactively in community activities.
• Always ensures the safety of child/youth during the provision of community-based services; remains responsive to the youth’s needs.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding child/youth and his/her family. 
• Reports incidences of suspected child abuse in compliance with mandated reporting requirements. 
• Communicates professionally with clients, parents, and guardians and maintains professional boundaries.
• Attends ongoing clinical supervision and team meetings as required; participates in treatment planning and goal setting. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Education/Certifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• Valid Driver’s license and minimum state required auto insurance

Experience:
• 1-2 years of similar behavioral health work experience
• Prior experience driving and transporting youth preferred

Required Knowledge
• Must be able to recognize signs of child abuse.
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Skills/Abilities:
• The ability to engage in prescribed activities from a mental health treatment plan.
• The ability to provide direct behavioral interventions with children/youth.
• The ability to perform crisis intervention, respond promptly to client emergency situations, and take effective action to control potentially disruptive incidents by intervention and referral.
• The ability to observe and accurately describe client behavior and activities.
• Must maintain accurate records.
• Must be able to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
• Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• The ability to work with individuals from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

• The ability to use basic business equipment.
• Preparing clear and concise records and other written material.
• Documenting in an electronic medical records system.

Other Requirements:
• Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends. 
• Must have the ability to travel frequently within the Tri-County catchment area. Must have access to a telephone. Must possess a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance and a vehicle for work.
