POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
TITLE:        School Based Youth Qualified Mental Health Professional
 
FLSA Status:             Exempt                 
 
REPORTS TO:       Associate Director  
 
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
 
  • In cooperation with the North Kansas City (NKC) School District, provides clinical behavioral health services and related support to students and their families in the NKC School District.This position will serve as liaison with the NKC School District staff and Tri-County Mental Health.Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, both oral and written.
 
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Provision of services will include, but not limited to: assessment individual/family therapy, support groups, referral and coordination for additional services, crisis evaluation, resource and referral assistance to appropriate services within Tri-County and the community.
 
  • Coordinate family and team staffing for challenging cases, utilizing independent judgment and decision-making regarding recommendations for services on behalf of the agency.
     
  • Coordinate referral for services for youth and families based on assessment of need.
     
  • Provide support and education to NKC school staff as needed.
     
  • Coordinate Professional Development services at individual NKC school sites functioning.
     
  • Provision of case management services for students and families.Case management consists of being able to independently problem solve student issues related to behavioral health, making sure basic needs are met, and they are receiving appropriate services.
     
  • Provide crisis intervention to students experiencing a psychiatric crisis and utilize professional judgment in determining intervention needed, including the need for hospitalization or residential treatment if appropriate.
     
  • Liaison with all community partners to include but is not limited to, Children’s Division, Kansas City Regional Office, and Juvenile Offices as needed to provide resources.
 
  • Coordinate expansion of psycho-educational services at individual NKC school sites.
 
  • Assist NKC School District in areas of staff development training and/or education for parents regarding behavioral health issues.
 
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking in order to provide appropriate clinical interventions to consumers involved with treatment courts.
 
  • Problem Solve independently issues related to housing and housing crisis, finding community resources to assist with basic needs as well as emergency situations, advocate for consumers in regards to receiving proper health care, and be available to problem-solve matters of significance
     
  • Complete progress notes in AVATAR within three (3) business days of service provided which clearly reflect intervention provided and medical necessity of those interventions.
     
  • Meet productivity expectation of 4 hours per day.
 
  • Other duties and/or responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor.
